The recipe belongs to my great-grandparents Daniel and Josephine. They came to America in 1932 after they got married. My great grandpa was Italian-Swiss and my great grandma was Italian.
My grandpa worked at a bakery in Switzerland, and that is where they got the recipe. When they came to America in 1932 they opened a restaurant off of Halls Ferry. It stood next to King Quality Dairy, and their restaurant was well known for their German chocolate cake.
This is where my grandpa Bill met my grandma Sophie in 1951 which would've made my grandpa about 24 at the time. My great-grandparents passed the recipe on to my grandparents who passed it on to their kids.

TUNA NOODLE SPIT

1 16oz box of elbow noodles (cooked, drained, rinsed & set aside)
1 medium sized onion (finely chopped; add to noodles you set aside)
1 16oz bag of frozen peas, add to noodle mixture
4 cans of 6 oz tuna in water.
Recipe
Add Miracle Whip for the taste and stir in with mixture. Add salt and pepper for the taste. Refrigerate to chill. Better served cold.
Essay
My mother started "Tuna Noodle Spit" known to some as the common tuna casserole. When my mother was in college, she and her roommate were busy making a tuna casserole. They had spent a long time making it, but when they started to taste it to see if they successfully made the recipe her roommate made a very funny joke. The joke was so funny that it made both my mom and her roommate laugh so hard they spit out the tuna casserole.
Ever since that happened my mother and her roommate called it tuna noodle spit. Then when my mom brought the tuna casserole to my grandma, grandpa, my aunt and eight uncles she told them the joke. It made them laugh very hard. So hard in fact that they spit out the tuna casserole. Ever since then its been in the family as one of our favorite recipes. Even now we still call it Tuna Noodle Spit.
I do not know where tuna casserole originated but it was most probably a place where fish is one of the major products. I do know that my family has always made tuna casseroles. I don't know what the joke but I'm pretty sure it will make you spit out your food too.

4 slices of tore wheat bread
1 egg
8 oz. can of tomato sauce
2 tablespoons of Mauls "Sweet and Mild" barbecue sauce
1 small chopped onion
Recipe

Essay
My family recipe is meatloaf. This recipe is important to me because in my house it is a tradition to have meatloaf on the very first day of school every year. Meatloaf is an American food. It doesn't reflect anything unique about my culture, religion or resources. There is not a folktale or exciting story behind this recipe either. My recipe does not have a lot of history behind it. It only goes back in my family tree as my Grandma Mil.

Essay
My recipe is French toast. I don't know what culture it came from, but it is very important to my family.
It is important to my family because when I was little I loved breakfast, (I still do) and my mom would wake my three brothers and me up and surprises us with a big fancy breakfast.
French toast is important to my culture because my mom got the recipe from my grandmother. That is really important to my mom. I don't know why it is so important to my mom though. The recipe was from my great grandmother, but I don't know were she was from. My grandmother got it from her, then my mom got it from her then I got it from my mom. Someday when I have kids I'll give it to them.

Essay
This recipe's country of origin is Mexico. The significance of this recipe to my family background is that most of my family is Mexican so we get together and eat Mexican foods.
This recipe is special to me because I am part Mexican. I have many memories of this recipe. My family and I get together at least once a year and have a big party.
We invite all our family. They each get to bring some kind of Mexican food that they like. All of the kids play games until lunch. The adults usually join in on our games. We have a lot of fun, but the real fun is when dinner begins. We sit around tables of food and talk and share stories of things we have done. Not all the food we eat is Mexican, but it does not matter because we do not always eat Mexican food. After dinner we break open a piñata, that is filled with small toys and many different candies.
All the kids stay up late and talk with family. We just have a really good time.

SPIDER COOKIES
One of my family recipes is called Spider Cookies. My whole family likes them. Especially my two brothers and I. My mom makes them only three times a year. At Thanksgiving, Christmas, and at New Years. The way we got the recipe was a long time ago my mom and five of her friends would make six batches of cookies. Then they would eat one at the party and exchange the rest. One year she brought Spider Cookies and my whole family loved them. Which came as a surprise to her because every one likes something different.

RUSSIAN TEA CAKES
Ingredients
1 C butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 C powdered sugar
2 1/4 C flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Recipe
Add 3/4 C nuts. Chill dough. Roll into balls. Set at 400 degrees. But not brown. Roll in powdered sugar-cool and roll again.
Essay
The Russian Tea Cakes are significant to me because they have been handed down for at least four generations as my family knows. This recipe is special to me because every Christmas, my family will spend hours in the kitchen baking all kinds of plates of cookies, and Russian tea cakes are just one of the many types of desserts which we prepare for our teachers, friends, family, principles, and many other people. There is no story or folk tale to this recipe that I know of, but I wish there was one so I could understand more about my religion and recipe, and how they reached my family.
I do not know much about this recipe because I am too young and believe it, neither does my mother. I do not really like the taste of Russian Tea Cakes because my whole life, I have never liked nuts. I am not allergic to them or anything, I just do not like them. I might try them next year, and I might like them, but I have not thought about it too much.
Throughout the years all of the teachers and every one who has received my cookies have given me a thank you, they are good, or whatever and I love hearing that. I have continued this tradition for since I can remember. My mother does most of our cooking and baking for us, my brother, sister and me. Well I have learned a lot about Russian Tea Cakes. They are a very big hit.

EGG SANDWICH
Ingredients
2 pieces of bread
1 egg
teaspoon of butter
Essay
My recipe is an egg sandwich. My dad and me always make them. All you have to do to make it is, take a piece of bread and cut a hole in it and dump the egg in it.
Then you cook it in a pan with butter and you can put cheese on it if you want. You can also pop the yolk or leave it runny. It is better runny to me. After that you toast the second piece of bread and put it together. It is very good.
How this recipe came up was my dad and me eat them in the morning and at night sometimes. We just came up with it when we got home from a new years eve party. We were hungry so we came up with that and we have ate them ever since. They are very good you should try them!
