Essay
Potatoes come from Ireland, but the recipe's country origin is the southern states in the United States. In my culture, potato salad has always been a part of the Sunday Meal. From my grandmother's house to my house, potato salad has been a part of the traditional Sunday dinner.
This recipe is special to me because on Sunday we always have a big feast. That feast includes everything. We may have a variety of meats and different types of other foods to go with our dinner. These foods include yams, macaroni and cheese, collard greens or kale, corn bread or rolls and my favorite potato salad. There are other types of food served that I can't remember at the time.
The memories and stories I associate with our Sunday meal is just the watching of football games with the family and friends. There's a lot of yelling, beer drinking and having fun. There is no step in the food preparation that is reflective and unique to my culture.

Essay
My favorite recipe is turkey because I like the way my Mom cooks it. Dhe makes it the way I like it, actually the way everybody likes it. First thing she does with the turkey is that she cleans the turkey really well. Then she puts lemon over it. Then she washes it really well. Then she puts the seasoning on the turkey. Then she puts it in the oven. Then she waits for it to be cooked. After it is done we are ready to eat it. We eat Turkey on Thanksgiving and on Christmas. This is my family's traditional food for these holidays.

Essay
My name is Quacy and I am 15 years old. My family recipe is apple pie. The reason why my family loves this recipe is because it tastes good. When my family gets together, we eat a lot of food, apple pie, a lot of turkey, and applesauce.
Sometimes my cousin comes to Queens and has Thanksgiving with my family. Sometimes I go to Virginia Beach and have Thanksgiving with my cousin. Sometimes she and my mother, father and my brother go to New Jersey and have Thanksgiving with my family. And sometimes we don't have Thanksgiving, because my Dad and my Mom go to work and I have to go to my cousin's house to have Thanksgiving with my aunt and uncle.
When we finish eating, we go outside and play football. Sometimes we play basketball. The food that we eat is chicken, eggs, rice, apple pie, banana bread, turkey, and applesauce. Sometimes my family has a party with my friends. I like the Thanksgiving holiday with all the food and apple pie.

1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons margarine or butter
1/4 cup shortenin
Ingredients for APPLE FILLING
2 pounds granny smith apple (about 4 large)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 container (8 ounces) sour cream

To prepare the pie crust: In a medium bowl, mix flour and salt with pastry blender or two knives used scissors fashion. Cut in margarine or butter with shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs, sprinkle about 4 tablespoons cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time into flour mixture, mixing lightly with fork after each addition until dough is just moist enough into a dish.
On a lightly floured surface, with floured rolling pin, roll dough into a round, 2 inches larger in diameter then an inverted 9 1/2 -inch deep-dish pie plate. Ease dough into pie plate; trim edge, leaving 1-inch overhang. Fold overhanging dough under; pinch to form decorative edge, cover and refrigerate pie shell.
Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees and prepare the apple filling. Peel, core, and cut apples into 1/4 inch thick slices. In large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. In medium bowl, with wire whisk or fork, beat sour cream, sugar, flour, vanilla, salt, and egg just until blended. Stir sour cream mixture into apple mixture, spoon into chilled pie shell.
Place sheet of foil under pie plate; and crimp foil edges to form a rim to catch any drips during baking. Bake pie for 1 hour, covering loosely with foil if apples are browning too quickly.

My name is Hadassah. I am 16 years old and I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens. I have 8 brothers and no sisters. On Thanksgiving we come together and have a big dinner. We sit around the table and eat, laugh, and say what we are thankful for.
This holiday is important because it brings the family together. It lets the family socialize and get to know one another. The food is not really important because we could order food in and call it a day, but the traditional food that we eat is turkey, ham, roast beef, and turkey necks from the meat.
We also have macaroni and cheese, collard greens, turnip greens, kale, yellow Mexican rice, Jamaican rice and peas, corn, string beans, fried chicken, turkey gravy, chicken gravy, and chicken and dumplings. I think the traditional way is better, that is why our family follows it.
