Buenos Aires & The Bronx Constitution of Student Rights

Students:

Article 2 — No student should be discriminated, no matter his/her skin color, religion, culture, origin, sex background or social status. They can be discriminated both with words or actions, and they hurt the same. All students should have equal rights, no matter what. Most kids pick on other kids because of the way they look and act, or because of their language. Some students are left apart or discriminated by his or her classmates because of any of the motives mentioned above. We are all the same and we should treat each other like brothers, that way, lots of problems would be avoided.

Article 3 — Freedom is not just been given the possibility of taking decisions. Every student has the right to express him/herself in all kinds of situations. Students also have the right to feel safe and comfortable, because it would be unfair if he/she didn't have personal security as it should be. Life is the most important source on student's life because nobody could ever kill students under any concept. A student's death is the worst event he/she would ever take part in and common acts like consuming drugs or alcohol in school should be forbidden, because students don't know how bad it could cause.

Article 5 — In some schools, students are hit or humiliated in front of the class. This is not only a physical torture for him/her, but mental too. The student feels hurt and degraded because the other children witnessed the scene. This little by little, will have an effect on the kid turning him/her either aggressive, shy or insecure. No student should be tortured, no matter what he/she did. Torturing is inhuman and brute, and it should be strictly forbidden.

Article 6 — At school all students are the same. Teachers shouldn't have a favorite student. Teachers either shouldn't hate a student in particular, because we are all the same. All students should have the same rights. Students should be entitled to the same things even if they are right or wrong. For example, if a student is a straight - A student and he or she does something wrong, he or she should get punished. No teacher should show favoritism to any student.

Article 11 — At school students must have the chance to become familiar with school rules; they should also need to participate in their creation so then they are possible to be defend him. Any student accused of doing something in school shouldn't be punished until proven guilty. A teacher might not like a student and could falsely accuse the student, and then the student would be punished with no say.

Article 12 — At school, any student shouldn't check the knapsack, locker or bag of other person without permission of the owner because we must all have the right of privacy.

Article 13 — Every student in a school building should be able to leave a classroom under two circumstances. For example, if you have a younger sibling and he or she is sick, you can't wait for the teacher to finish a lesson just to sign a pass. And if you have to go to the restroom, and it's an emergency, you can't wait for a teacher to sign a pass, because you just might end up having an accident.

Article 19 — Every pupil has the right to express his beliefs, to give an opinion and they should not be discriminated for such ideas. He can publish his/her opinion without restrictions and in any part of the world by any kind of element of communication. He also has the right to express in his way having the back up of his teachers, parents, tutors, etc.

Article 20 — Everyone should have the right to have a peaceful day and work with people who are peaceful. The people with whom we associate, affects our social and school activities. Students should be able to associate with anyone if it is peaceful because school shouldn't be just work. No student should be compelled to join a club at school just to be called "socially adapted." Students should be able to join anything we want to since it is a free country.

Article 23 — Every student has the right to go to school, and choose the institution where he would like to study. He could be in a place with good conditions and where equal opportunities are given to each student.

Article 24 — Every person including students has the right of free time during work or school hours. They also have the right of a vacation and reasonable work hours. If they don't rest they won't think well and work well because they are tired. Many teachers give us a little bit of homework every day but that plus other homework takes up most of our time, and the time that we got left we use it to eat, shower and to sleep. If teachers take our break as a punishment, it is worse because we are tired and moody that way we talk in class and pay no attention. There are other ways of punishing such as low grades or extra tests.

Article 25 — All students should have the right to medical attention because not everybody has enough money for hospital bills. Also, if you are sick in school, you should have the right to go to the nurse to get medical attention even if you don't have health insurance and be able to go to the hospital for any emergency. All students should also have the right to free lunch.

Article 26 — Students have a right to a free education. Even college should be free. Also, students that need extra help should be placed in a different class so the teacher can concentrate on them or in after-school programs. Students should receive school supplies even if they don't have the money for them.

Article 27 — Every student has a right to learn about other cultures and interact with other students of different backgrounds or races. They should be able to have their own opinions about others without being criticized for expressing themselves. Also, students should be able to learn about anything that interests them.

Article 29 — Students should have the right to do as they wish in school, as long as they don’t break any rules or regulations. Students should also have the right to speak their mind or opinion. If they didn’t have the right to do that, what would happen is other students or teachers’ opinions would be pushed on them.
